O’Keefe: IN THE BEGINNING

Gregory O'keefe - Hoffman - 6 & 12 string guitar, vocals, bodhran and tin whistle

Why O'Keefe...and why now? Ah, let me tell you a bit about myself. Born into a family of solid Irish/German heritage, the O'Keefes and Hoffmans provided a rich history of storytelling and enjoyment of song for generations. My late grandfather would have family members and visitors spellbound, or in stitches as he related tales of family history and intrigue, many times peppered liberally with his own versions of events! The results were always great craic! My Irish grandmother, Viola Agnes Margret O'Keefe [1895-1984] would quietly smile and listen, then give him the eye that said everything... It was hard to remember that he represented the German side, not the Irish side of the family. You'd never know it! It was from him that I inherited my love of storytelling and music. My first guitar in 1963 was the beginning of an on-again/off-again affair with folksinging, bar bands and storytelling that has woven a thread (more like a rope!) through my life. Since I retired from a career as a professional chef and culinary teacher, I have rekindled my musical journey with the help of a talented and easygoing singer/songwriter/musician by the name of Nathan Day. The result is O'Keefe. Thanks, Nate, for helping me recognize that music and fun knows no age limits! It's great to be back behind the mic sharing the music and stories with a new generation! Slainte!

Nathan Day - 6 string guitar, mandolin and vocals

Nathan Day is a talented singer songwriter. His four CD's released to date are brilliant examples of the easy fluid songwriting that comes from a love of music. His 4th and latest release is an interesting departure from his first three CD's; its a Bluegrass CD! Nathan didn't so much "join" O'keefe as he was there for the "birth" of the project. Loaning some of his gear to Greg for his opening gig at Tucker's Pub, Nathan offered to sit in for backing. The rest, as they say, is history.
